The Trifecta weekend writing prompt, leaves much to interpretation: “As you’ll recall from your elementary science class days, the structure of the earth can be divided most simply into three sections: core, mantle, crust. Give us 33 words from it. Interpret the prompt however you wish–literal, metaphorical, or somewhere in between.”
This is my take:
For centuries the creature waited patiently, resting, feeding, growing, deep inside the Earth’s core. Now, its masters were calling. Once it broke through the crust, mankind’s demise would be both swift and bloody.
