The End Of The World – 100 Word Story

Here is my contribution to this week’s ‘Friday Fictioneers’ 100 Word Stories.

Another hour and the whole of this area would be fenced off. By nightfall, armed guard posts would be set up and everywhere made secure.   There had only been one reported case of the virus but it had been enough for the authorities to quarantine the whole area. Tomorrow the robotic flame throwers would begin their intensive cleaning programme.  Jimmy knew that if he was going to get out he would have to go now. He wasn’t to know that the virus had decided to come with him. His escape would be the beginning of the end of the world.

  1. .Oh Mike. Armageddon time. End of the world stories are frightening to me. I could not finish reading The Road. It’s all predicted in the Bible, … viruses, fires, earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, locusts, etc…I’m just glad I won’t be around to see it. However, I fear for the babies and their babies…they may experience it. Now see what you’ve started. Never mind. It’s a beautifully written story…that’s all that counts. Here’s mine: (a tad lighter)

  2. What a great start to an ending story. I don’t know why I like those so much, but I do. I think because the decisions faced by everyone during a time like present such strong ethical questions that can’t always be answered easily.

I look forward to reading your comments
