The End Is Nigh – 100 Words For Friday Fictioneers

A day late for my submission for this week’s ‘Friday Fictioneers’ 100 word story. I’m just hoping that fellow fictioneers will forgive me.

The End Is Nigh

The latest report on planet Earth was disturbing. Despite repeated warnings the people were still making an unholy mess of things. Wars, famine, greed lust – all getting worse. It seemed history had taught them nothing. It wasn’t as if he hadn’t tried, goodness knows he had. There was that great flood, for instance, with that chap Noah. You think that would have been warning enough, but no. It was now out of his hands. His project had been declared a failure. A new creator had been appointed and was already implementing his scorched earth strategy, ready for a fresh start.

  1. LOL, I like that concept of ‘Creator’ as a job position. Good story! I’m a day behind in reading so I’m sure others are too and that you’ll be getting more visitors today. It takes a good while to get through all the stories sometimes 🙂

  2. Dear Mike,

Creatively, your story was a perfect gem. Loved it. Reminded me of a poster from the seventies that showed a profile of an angry man with an upraised finger, crown on his head, saying, “Earth, this is God. I want all of you out of there by the end of the month. i have a client who’s INTERESTED in the property.” Well done.

On a technical note. I think ‘…that chap called Noah.’ could be simplified to, ‘…that chap Noah.’ Small kine, as they say here in Hawaii, but I think it reads better.

    Aloha,

    Doug

    1. Many thanks for your kind words Doug. I’m glad you enjoyed this piece.
Thanks also for the excellent advice re. ‘that chap called Noah’ – you’re right it does read better & what’s more it gets the word count for this story down to exactly 100 words!
I’m off to edit it now.

  3. Really intriguing and clever take on the prompt. You would think we would take the hint but there we go merrily destroying everything in the name of self and greed. So it continues…

I look forward to reading your comments
