I Want A Man – Another story for ‘Inspiration Monday’

I’m really enjoying this week’s writing prompts from ‘Inspiration Monday’. I felt that this one, ‘Disposable men’ called for a dialogue only story.

I Want A Man

“I want a man.”

“Certainly madam. What sort exactly? We pride ourselves on having a wide selection. I’m sure we can find something to suit madam.”

“That’s why I’m here. My friends all say that you are the best. Expensive but you have a reputation for only delivering quality.”

“Thank you madam. Your friends have advised you well. Our establishment is the very best. Many of the rich and the famous like to shop here. Now, this man that madam wants.’

“Ah yes. Could you give me a break down on what you have to offer please.”

“Of course madam. We cater for all tastes and do our very best to keep up with the latest trends. The fashion at the moment is for the slightly older, more experienced man. He is cultured, well read, has traveled a lot and has a great sense of humour. We do those in various sizes and colours.”

“What about, you know, the ……. I’m sorry I find this bit embarrassing.”

“You have nothing to worry about there madam. All our models have been fully tested in that department. In fact we offer a money back guarantee if you are not fully satisfied.”

“That sounds great. By the way do they come with names?”

“That is optional madam. We can name them for you but it does cost extra. We find that the majority of our customers tend to like to name them themselves.”

“I do have just one slight problem. I do tend to get bored with my men very quickly.”

“Ah, in that case madam you might be interested in our latest model. We’ve not had them long but they are proving to be extremely popular. We call them our ‘Disposable Men’.”

“A disposable man, that sounds intriguing. How exactly does that work.”

“It’s very simple madam. As soon as you’ve had enough of this model you just let us know. We then send one of our staff over to you and dispose of that model quickly, quietly and, of course, very discreetly. We operate a 24 hour service so we are available any time any where.”

“Wonderful. That sounds ideal. Have you got some samples I could have a look at?”

“Of course madam, come this way. Would madam like to see them clothed or unclothed?”

  1. Ahhh, if only it was that easy. This one tickled my funny bone, but there was something a little creepy about that “very discreetly”. Great bit of dialogue.

    1. Thank you for your comments Laurita. Glad you enjoyed the story.
I find it great fun writing these dialogue only pieces.
Let’s hope that we never get to the state of ‘disposable men’!

  2. very, very….um. English I suppose, the unctuous tones, I could almost see the hand gestures, slightly rubbing the palms together type of thing. Loved it Mike, has me smiling throughout, and clothed methinks, always best first view!! 😉 xPenx

    1. Hi Pen. Thanks for your kind words.
It was very ‘English’ – I had Grace Bros. & Are You Being Served going through my head while I was writing it. I nearly called it ‘Are You Being Served’ but guessed that might be lost on any bloggers reading it outside the UK.
Glad I was able to bring a smile to your face.

That’s a great last line you’ve suggested – wish I’d thought of it!

  3. “keep up with the trends” and ‘fashion of the moment’. I am not so sure why I thought this was hilarious and also a great idea at the same time. Yes, a bit creepy, too. You managed, again, with you dialogue, to give us a story we can’t stop reading. I wish it had gone on. Perhaps…a sharing circle of satisfied clients?

I love the idea of “a sharing circle of satisfied clients.” There must be a follow up story in that.
